The Project
“Europe Rows for an Education” (EUROWE), is a project focused on the promotion of equal opportunities for all, specifically vulnerable youth from families with socio-economic difficulties. All partners, Aviron Sétois, Donegal Bay Rowing Club and Hebros Grebane belong to the world of rowing. The project coordinator, Rowe, is an NGO working in the fields of education, volunteering and sport, with their own rowing club too.
All four participant organizations develop diversity-sensitive practices and methods contributing to creating inclusive environments that foster equity and equality, and that are responsive to the needs of the wider community. The participants offer a rowing scholarship locally in their respective zones to kids whose families cannot afford paying for additional activities or sports out of standard school classes.
Each club tracks the kids’ progress from the beginning till the end of the project. In addition to this, the project meetings are used for knowledge sharing between the partners. The project includes also a virtual competition between the four partners, with a special award to the kids that have enjoyed the scholarship to help them experience the sense of achievement that will keep them engaged with sports and learning.
An EU-Funded Project

Europe Rows for an Education is a project fully funded by the European Union through its Erasmus+ Sport programme. The consortium submitted the project proposal within the 2024 call for Small-Scale Partnership projects and was awarded the funding. Thanks to the EU support the participating partners can implement the sports & learning activities to children from vulnerable backgrounds who would otherwise not be able to do them.
The Partners

Hebros Grebane rowing sports club’s mission is the promotion and development of academic rowing in all its aspects, as a recreational and competitive sport. With its activities the club strives to realize the potential of the rowing canal in the city of Plovdiv – one of the best in the world. The goal is to motivate the citizens of the Plovdiv region to practice sport. Ever since its establishment the club has consistently supplied the Bulgarian national team with rowers that have achieved success in World, European and Blkan championships.
Aviron Sétois‘ primary goal is to train, educate, and introduce more children to rowing, while maintaining balance among all types of practitioners. While prioritizing youth, Aviron Sétois has worked to promote all forms of rowing practice while supporting different audiences. To achieve this, the club has relied on the tools provided by the federation. Whenever possible, it has also taken the initiative in proposing new actions and acting as a support association. Key projects and major events include: “More than an engaged citizen, a volunteer at Aviron Sétois”: Encouraging volunteer commitment in sports and administration. 40th anniversary of the club, hosting the French Coastal Rowing Championship.

Rowe is an NGO focused on addressing the inequality that kids from under-resourced families suffer due to their background, which prevents them from getting the support they need to get through school successfully and to enjoy other complementary activities for their development such as non-formal learning skills and practising sport. To this end, ROWE offers school support with its volunteering project “From Kid to Kid”. In partnership with schools from the International Baccalaureate Diploma, like King’s College, for volunteers, and other education orgs like FUHEM we give them the opportunity to come together and help each other, engaging with learning.
Donegal Bay RC is a longstanding rowing club with over 50 years in existence. In the intervening decades, the club has progressed from parochial coastal fours rowing to representation at international level in offshore doubles. Vibrant committees and supportive members have enabled the club to compete at national level while still facilitating recreational rowing. As host to two Coastal Championships in 2016/17, the success of these fixtures was attributable to the club’s unmatched organisation input. In recent years partnership with Abbey Vocational School has enabled a joint application for funds via Ireland’s Sports Capital Grants.
